Cost management from sketch design to completion

Knowing what you’re talking about. That’s the basis of good construction cost advice in healthcare. Wiegerinck works on feasible projects. Together we strive for maximum yield from the construction budget. Thanks to our many years of experience with new construction and renovation projects in the healthcare sector, we know all about the tension between ambitions, budgets and costs. Our working method guarantees cost management throughout the entire process, from sketch design to completion.

The right choices at the right time

Every project is a compromise between the interests of the patient, client, healthcare professional, administrator and manager. The costs are a sum of the choices made. The trick is to make cost-determining choices at the right moment in the design process. Often, details are considered too early and building methods and construction too late. As a result, cuts have to be made in the final phases of the project. Fortunately, this can be done differently.

Insight at any time

The aim of cost management is to have insight into cost development at any point in the project. Continuous monitoring allows us to identify deviations from the starting points in a timely manner. This allows us to make adjustments right away and propose measures to stay responsibly within budget limits. As the process progresses, less and less correction is needed. This saves a lot of time, energy and frustration.

Calculating with spaces

Generally, an estimate is made in the sketch phase on the basis of key figures—with all the uncertainty that entails. We have developed a tool that allows us to make a much better estimate of the required budget based on initial sketches or even the programme of requirements. We are able to link the programme of requirements or sketch to our pre-defined room types, such as an OR, patient room or sanitary facilities. This allows us to get a quick grip on construction costs in the very early stages of design, which is crucial, because at this stage costs are much more manageable.

We look beyond investment costs

When designing a building, the initial investment costs are only part of the information. In most cases, the final operating costs far exceed the investment costs. That’s why it makes sense to manage both investment and operating costs during the design phase, for instance using integral LCC calculations.

So you can move forward

We streamline the process. Acute, time-consuming cost-cutting operations are simply unnecessary during the project. Our approach to early steering and continuous cost management always proves its added value. So you can move forward with your project.
