Wiegerinck’s vision
Designing for healthcare is about creating a vital, supportive environment. For your patients or clients. For visitors and healthcare professionals. That’s why we strive for clear structures. We unravel the complexity of healthcare buildings and bring them back to the human scale. A ‘Wiegerinck building’ offers breathing space, the space to be human. Clients and users are part of the design process. We listen, ask questions and share our knowledge. And so together we arrive at an optimal design.
The future of elderly care requires new ideas. We need to move towards different ways of working and living. This is not just an issue for care organisations, but for society as a whole. And architecture is part of the solution. What role can buildings play in the inevitable transition of elderly care? Let us surprise you with new perspectives and design solutions.
Healing environment. It’s a term that comes up a lot. And yet there is no generally accepted definition of it. So what exactly is a healing environment? Why is it so important and useful? Dr Milee Herweijer, architect at Wiegerinck, wrote her PhD thesis on it at TU Delft: Evidence-Based Design in Dutch Hospitals.
For us, sustainability goes far beyond saving energy and using natural materials. We believe in healthy buildings. Healthy buildings not only reduce their impact on the environment, but also provide their users with a healthy living environment. A sustainable ambition should be about creating long-term value: value for people, the environment and nature.
BIM, the Building Information Model, is at the centre of our multidisciplinary design and implementation processes. BIM is much more than working out complex projects in 3D: it is a design tool, project coordination and data management all in one. When it comes to closely monitoring budget, time and quality, it’s an indispensable resource. Working in a BIM environment is part of our standard approach, and this has proven advantages both in small and large construction projects, such as the Amphia Hospital in Breda, Tergooi Medical Centre in Hilversum and the Amsterdam UMC Imaging Centre on the Vrije Universiteit campus.
Wiegerinck has worked on complex projects for many years. Demanding projects that call for a structural approach and good project management. These are the two unshakeable pillars of our approach.
Knowing what you’re talking about. That’s the basis of good construction cost advice in healthcare. Wiegerinck works on feasible projects. Together we strive for maximum yield from the construction budget. Thanks to our many years of experience with new construction and renovation projects in the healthcare sector, we know all about the tension between ambitions, budgets and costs. Our working method guarantees cost management throughout the entire process, from sketch design to completion.
