Collaboration on knowledge campus
Along with cardiovascular diseases, cancer is the most common disease. A better understanding of oncology and hence more effective treatment and care of the disease requires close collaboration between science, education, the business community and the health care sector. In this light, Instituut Verbeeten, TweeSteden Hospital and De Wever took the initiative to explore the possibility of setting up an oncology campus together with local and regional partners in education and the business community.
The campus is a place where academic research goes hand in hand with the industrial application of knowledge. Bringing research, training, R&D, education and SMEs together on one campus encourages synergy and shared added value. The campus should provide space for different identities. Every organisation that sets up there should be able to maintain its own identity. What’s more, the growth of the campus is an organic process. The architectural set-up should facilitate this by providing space and landscape.
