Burgers’ Zoo Kids Jungle

Arnhem

Organic playground

A new indoor playground has been designed at Burgers’ Zoo as an extension of the current park restaurant. The Kids Jungle theme playground is an added bonus for the park and ensures that Burgers’ Zoo is even less dependent on weather conditions than before. The playground is the most recent extension of the master plan for the zoo that Wiegerinck has co-drafted.

There are two volumes in the building. On the one hand, the organically structured hall in which the playground is constructed and, on the other hand, a glass panel in between that acts as a connective element with the current park restaurant. The organic form of the building means that it fits seamlessly into the natural setting, while retaining its own identity in the park.

The playground inside is set up like a Latin American jungle village including stilt houses connected by adventurous rope bridges, climbing nets and slides. The way in which the jungle village space has been structured ensures that there is a natural divide between the younger and older children.
